The Content Test
Despite the articles that talk about how Web users want entertainment, most of the solid research tells us that Web users want content. In fact, the most-commonly cited criterion in usability research for what makes a great Website is lots of relevant content.
Relevant content is content that answers a question or solves a problem. You already know the questions and the problems, because you have been in business for awhile. Take a look at what kinds of questions you get asked frequently. Look at the problems that your customers bring you. Those are the same ones theyâll bring to the Website.
Give yourself ten points here if you've got material on your site for all the frequently asked questions and common problems that come to you over the phone, as well as material on all the basic items and packages you sell.
Improve your scores here by trying to get as much content on your site as possible. You've probably got good sources of this among your staff, as well as in articles that you can re-print and material that you can get from manufacturers. The more you can segment the material, the better it will be.
