What Great Leaders DO Differently
Key Points

I’ve tried to load a lot into this program and support site. Here are what I consider the key points of the program.

Anyone responsible for the performance of a group is a leader. You don’t have any choice about it. You only get a choice about what kind of leader you’ll be.

Theory's just a noise, boys, behavior does the work. It doesn’t matter what theory of leadership you believe. What matters is how you act.

Recruiting, training and development are all important. Done right they can turn a troubled and ineffective agency into a great one. But, to do them right, takes people and time and resources.

Leadership breeds leadership. This is something we haven’t covered, but it's a great one to close with. The work of building leadership in an agency is often hard work that extends over years.

Even when you’ve done that job, you can’t relax. You’ve got to keep doing the recruiting, training and development that continue to grow and reward leadership behavior in your agency. That's the bad news, you’re never done.

Now for the good news. It gets easier, a lot easier, as you go along. Great leadership breeds more great leadership. Agencies with great leaders attract quality folks more easily and those folks develop their leadership skills more surely and more quickly than happens in other agencies.

Wherever you are now, that's what you’re aiming for, an agency where great leadership is common, and an agency where good people flourish and do excellent work. If I can help you do that, please contact me.

I’ve developed a resource list o help you improve the leadership in your agency. Review it and let me know if there are other resources I should add and be sure to contact me if I can ever help you in any way.
