It was no less a luminary among economists than John Maynard Keynes, who referred to Economics as "The Dismal Science.% This book proves that it need not be so.
Robert Heilbroner does a first-rate job of teasing out the stories of economists, whom he refers to as worldly philosophers. In the process, he also manages to tease out a lucid and accessible description of their key theories and beliefs.
This is the book for you if you've always wanted to understand Economics, but didn't want to "bone-upä on your math before you learn a bit more. It's the book for you if your Economics class in college was the best place to sleep besides your own bed. It's the book for you if you want to understand not only what Economics is about, but what Economists are about. All of this is true, because Heilbroner understands his subject and is able to tell their stories so that even people like me can understand it.
