Process Overview

Here's a quick overview of the five stages of effective business website development.

Stage 1 -- Decide on Key Issues

In this stage you decide on all the key business and operational things that affect your choices later in the process.

Stage 2 -- Design the Information and the Experience

In this stage you use a variety of design techniques to design the information structure of your site so that your key visitors have an excellent experience when they visit. You decide what information will be on the site and how it will be linked. You also make decisions about key performance specifications and use those to help you select the outside contractors you will need.

Stage 3 - Develop the Pages, Functions and Plans

This stage begins when you contract with outside individuals or firms. In this stage you and your contractors will develop the pages designs and templates, the forms and the features that bring your site alive. You'll also develop and add content to your site. This site also includes developing your rollout and promotion plans for the site.

Stage 4 -- Deploy the Site

This stage begins when you do a full scale beta test for your site and ends when you rollout the final site and implement your promotion plan.

Stage 5 -- Do More

This stage goes on forever. It includes enriching the site, all the maintenance tasks and all the promotional work that will be done daily, weekly and monthly.
