You will want to register your site with key catalogs and search engines. There are several ways to do this.
You can do it yourself, search engine by search engine and catalog by catalog. This is time consuming and requires you to do lots of homework. It's usually a bad idea, even if you automate a good deal of the process by buying a software package.
You can fork over a few bucks to one of those services that promises to register you with a Carl Sagan number (billions and billions) of search engines. These services may work fine for search engines, but they're not so hot for catalogs.
You can hire someone to do the work for you. That may be a good choice if that someone is helping you define your keywords and descriptions. Otherwise you're still going to have to do the heavy definitional lifting yourself if you want an effective process.
What I recommend, and what I use, is a marvelous service called SelfPromotion.com. This site was developed by Robert Woodhead and combines the best of the automatic programs, services and do-it-yourself.
The price is right, too. Robert has set this up as a kind of shareware. You pay him what you think it's worth. Use the service. Pay him something. It's the best deal out there.
