The
Writer's Life
Welcome to the part of my site that's devoted
to The Writer's Life.
I've
been writing for publication since I was a teenager. Over the
years I've tried a lot of things. I wanted to be the next great
American poet. The only problem was that I didn't really have
much talent for that kind of writing.
I've
written fiction. I made a living for a while, back when you
could still do it, selling stories to magazines. I've tried
a novel or two, but my real love is writing stories about real
people doing real things in the real world. For me, that's much
more fascinating than making up stories.
Anyway,
over the years I've written over twenty books. I've written
over a thousand articles. I do a regular newsletter and a radio
commentary. I've also gotten to the point in my life where I
feel like I've learned things worth sharing with other writers.
This part of my site is a key part of that sharing. Here's what
you'll find.
There's
information on my writing services.
I write books, articles and Web sites for others.
You'll
find my Writer's Book List here,
too. These are my pick of some especially helpful books.
The
Web has some rich resources for writers. You'll find links
to some of them here.
For
years I ran a specialty publishing company. Now my Port
City Publishing offers a special set of services for writers.
If you're interested in the possibilities of publishing your
own work in either print or electronic form, but you really
aren't interested in learning all about ISBN numbers and bindings
and cover art, check out the ways we can help you accomplish
what you want.
In
November 2003 I gave a program to the North Carolina Writer's
Network Fall Conference on the subject of "Publishing and Selling
Your Writing in the Digital Age." Click here to check out the
Support Site
for that program.

out the resources and email me with questions and comments.
